Havamal Snippets 50: How OAP's fared in pre-industrial times

It's Wednesday (Woden/Odin's Day) which means that it's time for another verse from the Havamal 'Sayings of the High One - Odin'. The poem full of wisdom, both everyday and ethereal. (The poem can be found in full HERE):
50. A tree withers
that on a hill-top stands;
protects it neither bark nor leaves:
such is the man
whom no one favours:
why should he live long?

(Source: http://heathengods.com/havamal/thorpe.htm)
This is not really applicable in present day industrialized countries, where pensions are paid to old people by the state.

[End.]
